Autumn or Fall is a splendid time of year to see Nature at work. Trees which are deciduous have completed their function and need to go to sleep ... leaves turn into a magnificent array of colours. In simple terms the leaves turn dry and have different colours because the tree is removing as much nutrient as possible in preparing itself for next season before the leaf falls and eventually returns all remaining nutrients to the soil. Pigments which are left behind after nutrient removal show themselves as yellows, golds, and reds rather than chlorophyll-rich greens.
