The Iris 'Eye of the Tiger', 'Iris hollandica', a fall planted bulb, has electric dark violet-purple flowers that are excellent for cutting. This is one of the most cold-resistant variety of the Dutch Iris. Dutch Iris thrives best in moist, well-draining soil. The Iris blooms in late spring to early summer for a 2 - 3 week period. For a more striking effect, plant the bulbs in groups of 20 or more. In cold areas the Iris should be mulched in winter to protect from frost.
