Wildflowers are very easy to grow and need less maintenance when compared to other plants

Use wildflowers to design an eye-catching, colourful bed of elegant flowers which will invite butterflies and birds creating a lively scene in the garden. Wildflowers are hard beautiful flowers with various fascinating colours.

Start your seed

Begin sowing seeds in early spring when the hard frost has melted. Carefully remove weeds from the planting area and loosen soil to a depth of about 7cm then use a rake to smoothen the soil surface. Seed blends should be mixed before sowing and the seeds must be spread evenly over the area. Rake the area to promote perfect seed and soil contact. Ensure that the seed bed is kept moist until seeds have fully germinated and plants are clearly visible.

Wildflowers can be used for just about everything. Annuals, Biennials and perennials should be used and must be growing close to each other to create a wonderful eye-catching design throughout the year. Wildflowers flourish in both sunny and shady positions and can generally handle adverse soil conditions.

Wildflowers for shade

These can survive in shady conditions or in positions that do not have reliable light for example along north facing walls, under vegetation canopies or man made structures (such as buildings). Ensure that the wildflowers are subjected to at least 4 hours of sun.

Low growing wildflowers

These wildflowers are hardy and come in both annual and perennial types, in various colours and shapes. Low growing wildflowers grow to about 35cm tall. The low growing wildflowers are ideal for planting in a sunny position, in front of tall plants or a building. Low growing wildflowers can be successfully grown in conditions with excessive heat and low quality soil.

The butterfly garden blends

Butterfly garden blends have unique beautiful colours and have pleasant aroma which attracts useful insects such as butterflies, wasps and bees. The butterfly garden blends are indeed delightful plants that are easy to grow in the garden.

The hummingbird mixture

Being specifically formulated with various beautiful wildflower varieties, the hummingbird mixture is perhaps one of the most exhilarating wildflowers which has the special ability to attract the rare humming bird that will captivate the eye of the on looker. The humming bird mixture is ideal for growing in both sunny and shady positions.

Water regularly

The soil should be kept moist and should never be left to dry out completely. Check using your finger if its dry 1,25cm below the surface, then it means you have to irrigate the soil promptly.
